Spotlight: Justin Clark

Feb 11, 2020

Justin Clark is a Software Developer at Kitestring.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I enjoy spending time with my family. I have been married for 13 years in June, and we have 4 daughters together. I also enjoy working on home improvement projects.

What are some of your favorite things about living and working in NWA? This area in Arkansas is a unique spot! There are a lot of big companies nearby that help the cities and communities thrive. People are very friendly here. When we moved to the area, everyone in our neighborhood was so welcoming and easy to talk to. I am from Springfield, MO, and it’s nice not being too far from family while living here.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about helping people! I enjoy sharing my own personal and work experiences with others. When I started as a Jr. Associate, I gained a lot of experience from my seniors, and I want to pay that forward any way that I can.

Tell us how you started down your career path. -Were you influenced by anyone? When I started working fulltime at a hospital in Springfield as a Site Coordinator, I really hit it off with one of my supervisors, Jon Graham, by discussing basic programming. My interest was sparked immediately! I started incorporating some of this basic programming to help with my job. I taught myself up until I decided to attend school to get my degree in Information Technology Software at Western Governors University.

Tell us about some of your proudest achievements while working at Kitestring. When I first joined the Record Sales Team at Walmart, they were wanting a new 2.0 system. A fellow Kitestring associate, Alfredo Carillo, and I worked on creating this new system for them. After a lot of time and effort we were finally able to release this new system. Another project that I feel is a big achievement is my contribution to the Item Locator feature in the Walmart App. JD Pack, and I worked diligently on this project. I have also helped grow my team with other talented Kitestring associates.

What are some aspects of your job that you enjoy most? I love how my job is autonomous. You are aware of your surroundings and what you need to do. It allows a great work/life balance and a flexible schedule. I also enjoy that there are challenges to my everyday work, and I am able to use new technologies that I have not experienced yet.

What are some future goals that you have? I want to continue to learn emerging technologies and new languages. I have currently been studying Python. My long-term goal is to end up in a managerial type position where I can continue to help influence future developers. At the end of the day, I just want to work with people and help others. As long as I am able to do these things, I will be successful.

What are ten words (or less) of advice for others in your profession? “Simple is better than complicated.” Or “You don’t have to know it all.”
